The weight of life – A Short Story

A short story

A student walked over to the wise old man.

“Sir,” he said with a slow voice, “life is a heavy burden on my shoulders. It pushes me to the ground and I feel I will collapse under the weight.”

“My son,” the old man said with a warm smile, “life is lightweight like a feather.”

“Sir, with all due respect, you must be mistaken. I feel life pressing me like a load of thousands of pounds. Tell me, what can I do?”

“We put the burden on our shoulder ourselves.”, said the old man, still smiling.

“But …”  The young man started, but the old man cuts him off by lifting his hand: “This “but” alone, my son, weighs 1000 pounds.”
